How Much Does a Website Cost in Zimbabwe? (2026)

If you have asked three web designers in Harare for a price, you have probably had three very different answers. Some advertise complete websites for little more than a hundred dollars; others quote several thousand. Both can be honest. This guide explains what you get at each level, what the cheapest options tend to leave out, and what it costs to keep a site running after launch.

The short answer

Published prices from Harare agencies in 2026 fall into three broad groups:

Template websites: roughly $120–$600. A small site built on a ready-made design. Syrup lists a basic company website at $120, and speMEDIA lists packages from $199 to $599.
Professional business websites: roughly $300–$1,200. More pages, more attention to design and search. Fanadoh’s packages, for example, run from $300 for five pages to $1,200 for a larger site with online-store features.
Online shops and web platforms: a different price band. Once a site takes payments, manages stock or has customer logins, it is closer to software than to a website, and it is priced that way; our custom software cost guide covers that band.

Our own business websites start from $450 for up to five pages.

What the cheapest sites often leave out

A $120 website is not a scam. It is a different product. Before you choose on price alone, check these four things.

Speed on mobile data. Most people who find your business will do it on a phone, often on prepaid data. A heavy template stuffed with large images and plugins can take many seconds to load, and visitors leave before it finishes. Ask to see a site the designer has built and open it on your own phone, away from Wi-Fi.

Who owns the domain. Some low-cost packages register your domain in the designer’s name. If you ever fall out, or they disappear, you can lose your web address and your email with it. The domain should be registered to you or your company.

The basics Google needs. Proper page titles and descriptions, a sitemap, and a Google Search Console set-up cost very little to do at the start and are what let people find you when they search for your service in Harare or Bulawayo.

Security and updates. An unmaintained template site is an easy target. If nobody is responsible for updates and an SSL certificate, it will eventually break or be defaced.

Questions to ask before you pay

Whoever you choose, these five questions separate a good deal from a cheap one:

Can I see three sites you built, and can I contact those clients? Real work, with real businesses behind it, is the best evidence you will get.

Whose name will the domain be in? The answer should be yours.

What exactly is included, and what costs extra? Pages, rounds of changes, photos, copywriting, email addresses and hosting are the usual surprises.

What happens if something breaks in six months? You want to know who fixes it, how quickly, and what it costs.

How do I leave? If you ever move to another designer or host, you should be able to take the site and the domain with you without asking anyone’s permission.

An example: a Harare dental practice

Picture a dental practice that is currently known only through word of mouth and a Facebook page. What it needs is simple: a home page that says who they are and where they are, a page listing treatments, a page introducing the dentists, and a contact page with a map, opening hours and a WhatsApp button for appointment requests.

That is a five-page site, comfortably inside a starter budget. What it does not need yet is online booking with deposits, a patient login or reminders by SMS. Those are valuable, but they are software, and they can be added later once the practice knows how patients actually use the site. Starting small and adding the right features later almost always costs less than paying for everything on day one.

What our $450 website includes

Our starter tier exists for businesses that need a proper presence now and may need more later. For $450 you get up to five pages, a layout built for phones first, a contact form that lands in your inbox, a WhatsApp button that opens a chat with you, basic on-page SEO, SSL, and help pointing your Google Business Profile at the new site. You keep the domain, the content and the site.

It is a fixed price agreed before we start. What it does not include is just as clear: online shops, customer logins, more than five pages or writing all your content from scratch. Those are separate pieces of work, and we will tell you upfront if what you describe needs one of them.

Running costs: hosting, domain and support

The build is a one-off cost. Keeping the site online is not, and a quote that leaves these out is incomplete rather than cheaper.

Domain. A .co.zw address is registered through an accredited registrar and renewed every year. Registration needs a copy of your ID or company registration certificate and is processed by hand, so allow a few days.

Hosting. Basic shared hosting is advertised locally from a few dollars a month. Cheap hosting is fine for a small site, as long as someone is responsible for backups and security.

Support. Our hosting and support starts from $75 a month and covers hosting, monitoring, backups, updates and small changes. If you prefer to host the site yourself, we hand over everything you need to do that.

When a website is not enough

A website tells people about your business. It does not run any part of it. If what you actually want is for customers to book, pay, track a job or log in to see their invoices, a brochure site will not get you there, and bolting those features onto a cheap template usually costs more in the end than building them properly.

That is the point where a website becomes business software. Our guide to what custom software costs in Zimbabwe covers that next step, and you can see the kind of systems we build on our custom business software page.

Questions we get asked

Do I own my website?
You should. Make sure the domain is registered in your name or your company's name, and that you are given the login details for the hosting and the site itself. With us, the domain, the content and the site are yours.

How long does it take?
A five-page business website usually takes two to three weeks from the day the words and photos are ready. Waiting for content is the most common cause of delay, so gather it early.

Can I update it myself?
Yes, if it is built that way. We can set up simple editing for things that change often, such as prices, opening hours or a gallery, and leave the layout protected so it cannot be broken by accident.

Not sure what your business actually needs?

Tell us how you are working today and we will tell you what could be automated, roughly what it would take, and whether it is worth building at all. You leave with a recommendation either way.
